The Process.
It all starts with selecting the right hides.
Much inspiration for products comes from the markings and character of the hides themselves.
Products are made individually using hand tools, from cutting and punching holes to hand-stitching and stamping products. This results in significantly more time spent per item compared to mechanized processes, and ultimately allows us to create unique goods of the highest quality in original styles.
The Team.
We are a husband and wife team who create and appreciate handmade goods.
The Name.
I, Hunter, the maker of these leather goods, grew up spending a lot of time in the outdoors, specifically hunting and fishing along several river systems in the Southern United States. An oxbow is a section (meander) of river, stream, or creek that has become separated and is no longer part of the flowing body of water. For a multitude of reasons, oxbows are often hotspots for wildlife, from fish to deer, ducks, and otters. As a result of my passion for the outdoors, I spent a lot of time either in or near oxbows. As an homage to these great concentrators of wildlife, I named this company after them.
Oxbows are formed in the bends of rivers, streams, or creeks, and usually create a “U” shape. The “X” in the company’s logo is the outline of one of the oxbows that I often frequent. The “X” is formed by using the outline of the oxbow twice. One half of the “X” is the natural orientation of the oxbow, while the other half is the outline inverted and mirrored.
